Northumberland 89.7 FM is proud to welcome Dave Vaughan to the airwaves.

An award-winning novelist, Dave, made a sharp left turn from a long career in transportation into the far less predictable world of fiction. These days, the only passengers he deals with are imaginary, often loud, unpredictable, and terrible at following directions.

Based in Cobourg, Dave spends his time avoiding yard work, spoiling his grandchildren, and wrangling the ever-growing cast of oddball characters that insist on living rent-free in his imagination. His writing leans toward the unusual, the unexpected, and occasionally the unsettling—and he wouldn’t have it any other way.

Starting in April 2026, Dave brings that same creative energy to Northumberland 89.7 FM with a brand-new weekly show featuring music, conversation, and whatever else might come to mind. (Show name and time to be announced.)

Northumberland 89.7 FM is seeking journalists, storytellers, and news readers who are ready to make a difference in keeping your community informed.

The News Department requires more volunteers to help keep our listeners up-to-date on what is happening locally. Looking to start your career in journalism, or wanting to get back in the industry? This is a great way to do so. We provide all the training, opportunity, and technical support required to help you be successful. For more information please visit the radio station at 1000 Elgin Street West in Cobourg or contact danjones@northumberland897.ca.

The Canadian Journalism Collective (CJC-CCJ) is an independent organization created by and for Canadian news businesses to ensure fair and equitable distribution of $100 million annually from Google to news organizations across the country. Born from Canada’s groundbreaking Online News Act, we exist to support publishers and broadcasters from across the country—from independent local outlets to major networks, Indigenous news organizations to official language minority media.

The Community Radio Fund of Canada seeks and secures resources to fuel the production, distribution and sustainability of Canada’s community audio broadcasters through dynamic funding programs.

Le FCRC cherche et recueille des ressources pour financer des activités de production, de distribution et contribuer à la pérennité des radios communautaires du Canada à travers des programmes de financement dynamiques.

Pet of the Week

Pet of the Week

Pet of the Week: Felix

Breed: Domestic Longhair
Age: 6 years old
Sex: Male, neutered
Size: Medium
Personality: Loving, Curious, Quirky

Meet Felix! Felix is a sweet and affectionate boy who loves attention and being close to his people. This social guy enjoys spending time with his humans and being part of the daily routine. If you’re looking for a loving companion who wants to be near you and share quiet moments together, Felix may be your perfect match.

Felix does have one little quirk, while he always uses his litter box for urinating, he sometimes prefers not to use it for defecating. His future family should be comfortable with occasionally picking up after him, much like you would when taking a dog for a walk. For the right person, this small extra step will be well worth it for the love and companionship Felix has to give.

Felix also requires a special medicated diet for urinary crystals, which he will need to remain on for life. Maintaining this diet and providing a calm, low-stress home environment will help keep him happy and healthy.

If you’re looking for a friendly, affectionate cat with a big personality and don’t mind a small quirk in exchange for a wonderful companion, Felix is ready to win your heart!
