Northumberland 89.7 is proud to have Dave Vaughan Tuesday 3:00-5:00pm & Thursday and Friday 7:00-10:00am
An award-winning novelist, Dave, made a sharp left turn from a long career in transportation into the far less predictable world of fiction. These days, the only passengers he deals with are imaginary, often loud, unpredictable, and terrible at following directions.
Based in Cobourg, Dave spends his time avoiding yard work, spoiling his grandchildren, and wrangling the ever-growing cast of oddball characters that insist on living rent-free in his imagination. His writing leans toward the unusual, the unexpected, and occasionally the unsettling—and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
Starting in April 2026, Dave brings that same creative energy to Northumberland 89.7 FM with a brand-new weekly show featuring music, conversation, and whatever else might come to mind. (Show name and time to be announced.)
Northumberland 89.7 FM is seeking journalists, storytellers, and news readers who are ready to make a difference in keeping your community informed.
The News Department requires more volunteers to help keep our listeners up-to-date on what is happening locally. Looking to start your career in journalism, or wanting to get back in the industry? This is a great way to do so. We provide all the training, opportunity, and technical support required to help you be successful. For more information please visit the radio station at 1000 Elgin Street West in Cobourg or contact danjones@northumberland897.ca.
Volunteer Spotlight
Andrea Patterson
After her lengthy career in Marketing and Tourism for the Municipality of Port Hope, Andrea knew she had to stay busy after retirement. Her late husband Uwe Meyer, had joined Northumberland 897 as an on air host and she soon found her niche at the station too by writing and voicing commercials. Over seven years latter Andrea has expanded her role by compiling a list of events in the area and producing a weekly update called What’s Happening. She has recently found another interest by hosting interviews on Northumberland at Five. Last year she received the honour of a Civic Award for volunteerism for Port Hope.
Andrea has lived in Port Hope for most of her life and loves the community and the people who live in it. She has a passion for fashion, thrifting for one of a kind finds, cooking, entertaining and travel. Andrea loves meeting new people, so if you see her around town, stop and say hi, you'll be sure to get a smile!

Pet of the Week
Pet of the Week
Pet of the Week: Simon
Breed: Siamese
Age: 7 years old
Sex: Male, Neutered
Size: Large
Personality: Affectionate, Playful, Easygoing
Meet Simon, a big, handsome boy with an even bigger heart. While Simon may be a little shy at first, once he feels comfortable, his sweet and affectionate personality truly shines. This gentle giant absolutely loves playtime and will happily soak up all the belly rubs you’re willing to give.
Simon is currently working toward his weight loss goals, so he’s looking for a loving home that can help keep him active, healthy, and feeling his best. With patience, encouragement, and plenty of love, Simon is sure to thrive.
Because of his calm and sensitive nature, Simon may prefer a quieter home without overly energetic pets. He may not appreciate a dog companion right away, but with proper introductions and a laid-back canine friend, he could adjust well in the right environment. Respectful children who understand cat boundaries would also make wonderful companions for him.
More than anything, Simon is searching for a special family who will give him the love, patience, and attention he deserves. If you think Simon could be the perfect addition to your home, he is waiting for you at The Local Pet Pantry in Brighton!
