Northumberland 89.7 is proud to have Dave Vaughan Tuesday 3:00-5:00pm & Thursday and Friday 7:00-10:00am
An award-winning novelist, Dave, made a sharp left turn from a long career in transportation into the far less predictable world of fiction. These days, the only passengers he deals with are imaginary, often loud, unpredictable, and terrible at following directions.
Based in Cobourg, Dave spends his time avoiding yard work, spoiling his grandchildren, and wrangling the ever-growing cast of oddball characters that insist on living rent-free in his imagination. His writing leans toward the unusual, the unexpected, and occasionally the unsettling—and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
Starting in April 2026, Dave brings that same creative energy to Northumberland 89.7 FM with a brand-new weekly show featuring music, conversation, and whatever else might come to mind. (Show name and time to be announced.)
Northumberland 89.7 FM is seeking journalists, storytellers, and news readers who are ready to make a difference in keeping your community informed.

This is a great way to do so. We provide all the training, opportunity, and technical support required to help you be successful. Volunteer Spotlight
Victor Svenningson
Victor Svenningson is a founding member of Northumberland 89.7. FM back when we called it Small Town Radio. You may have heard him on air with such shows as Stage Left the Players, or from time to time on The Feed, Author's Live, or the odd commercial Victor's strengths are behind the scenes. Before retirement, he worked as a Technical Production Manager at the Harbourfront Centre and the Living Arts Centre. But once retired, he was able to give back and could work on projects that he found creative. He recorded years of Big Beat for 89.7, recorded the Cordsmen, In Contium, and Need a Little Christmas, to name a few, and created unique programming for the station. He has worked with a number of other show hosts, helping them create their own sound like. Hola Canada, Weekly Health Beat, and Tea n' Toast as examples.
Victor is extremely proud and lucky to be a part of 89.7 and of this community.
He has also received Civic Awards in both Cobourg and Port Hope for Arts and Culture.

Pet of the Week
Pet of the Week
Breed: Great Pyrenees mix
Age: 1 year old
Sex: Male, neutered
Size: Large
Personality: Goofy, Intelligent, Loyal
Deniro is a 1 year old Great Pyrenees cross with a striking presence and an even bigger heart. Sadly, he was surrendered through no fault of his own after living in a home with another dog and children. Like many young pups, Deniro had energy to spare and needed guidance, structure, and consistent training-but instead, he spent far too much time confined to a crate, missing out on the experiences that help a dog grow into a confident, well-rounded companion.
Now, Deniro is getting a fresh start. He is currently working closely with our trainer to build his confidence, learn boundaries, and develop positive social skills. And he's making great progress. This handsome boy is exceptionally intelligent, eager to please, and already showing just how capable he is when given the right support.
True to his Great Pyrenees roots, Deniro has a keen awareness of his surroundings and a natural guardian instinct. He will thrive in a home that understands and respects the traits of livestock guardian breeds-someone who can provide the structure, leadership, and continued training he needs to succeed.
Deniro is looking for a large-breed experienced owner who will see his potential, invest in his growth, and give him the life he deserves. With patience, consistency, and love, Deniro is sure to become a loyal, devoted companion who will truly shine in the right home. Interested individuals will need to schedule a meet and greet 12:00-4:00 Wed - Friday.
